The Effect of Acupuncture Stimulus for Cardio-Respiratory, Electrolyte Response in Athletes

Abstract
The subjects for this study were 7 female rythmic gymnastic players. A Cardio¡ªrespiratory function tests were done as a pre¡ªtest. And the post¡ªtest of identical cardio¡ªrespirotory test was done after 18 days of acupuncture treatment. The aerobic power analyzed. The results of the paired t¡ªtest as follows :
1. max VO_2 has changed from 1.81¡¾0.31 l/min to 2.06¡¾3.21 l/min which was 13.7£¥ increased(p<0.05).
2. max VO_2 body weight has increased by 16.9£¥ from 37.04¡¾3.17 ml/kg.min to 43.3¡¾5.01 ml/kg.min(P<0.03).
3. max O_2 removal has increased by 8£¥ from 38.38¡¾5.37 l/min to 45.44¡¾4.6 l/min(p<0.02).
4. max O_2 pulse has increased 4.58£¥ from 9.32¡¾5.37 ml/beat to 10.47¡¾2.11 ml/beat.
5. RQ at rest has increased 13.8£¥ from 0.58¡¾0.01 to 0.66¡¾0.04(p<0.04).
6. Cardiac Output (CO) increased by 4.7£¥ at heart rate 110¡ª120 beat/min from 8.8¡¾2.81 to 9.7¡¾2.5 l/min(p<0.04).
7. When Heart rate was 130¡ª140, Co was increased significantly 10.26£¥ from 10.59¡¾3.48 l/min to 13.01¡¾4.39 l/min.
8. When heart rate was 160¡ª170, it increased by 7.2£¥ from 13.76¡¾4.18 l/min to 15.90¡¾3.31 l/min.
9. K^+ has increased by 2.5£¥ from 4.60¡¾0.16 mM/l at rest to 4.84¡¾0.34 mM/l after exercise. After acupuncture, it was increased by 15.1£¥ to 6.45¡¾0.42 mM/e(p<0.001) at rest and it was decreased by 1.7£¥ compare to the acupuncture to 6.23¡¾0.82 mM/l.
10. Serum Ca^+ has increased by 46.5£¥ from 3.51¡¾0.37 mEq/l at rest to 9.6¡¾0.52 mEq/l after maximal exercise (p<0.001). With acupuncture, it increased 46.5£¥ than without acupuncture 3.51¡¾0.37 mEq/l to 8.91¡¾0.51 at rest (p<0.004). After maximal exercise it was increased by 43.7£¥ compare to 3.51¡¾0.35 mEq/l at rest before the acupuncture to 8.96¡¾0.68 mEq/l(p<0.007).
max VO_2, max VO_2 body weight, RQ, O_2 removal and O_2 pulse have changed significantly and these results show that the acupuncture administration gives optimal stimulus to autonomic nerve system and have positive effect on cardiac respiratory function to either eliminate or activate. The acupuncture also have influenced the organic function and controled the condition of the subjects and it was proved the as the means of treatment or rehabilitation to ethletes.
